PKR Depreciates Against USD, CAD Surges Beyond Psychological Mark
The Pakistani Rupee (PKR) has depreciated against the US Dollar (USD) for the first time in weeks, according to State Bank of Pakistan's Mark-to-Market Revaluation (M2M) exchange rates. The USD finished trading at 277.6036 on August 19, 2026, after holding steady at 277.6522 on August 13.
The Canadian Dollar (CAD), however, has seen a sharp increase, reaching 200.0963 from 199.0125, a gain of nearly one paisa that lifted it beyond the psychological mark of 200 for the first time since mid-July.
The British Pound (GBP) has depreciated to 376.2500 from 374.2613, with a gain of nearly two paisas that could put pressure on families exposed to the UK currency. The one-year forward rate suggests an annual erosion of the local unit against sterling at approximately 5.1 percent.
The depreciation of the PKR is expected to continue, with the market anticipating a decline in value over the next thirty days. The one-month dollar forward now stands at 279.3551, suggesting a depreciation of around 75 paisas over the next month.
