The British pound dipped slightly against both the euro and U.S. dollar on Friday due to market concerns over Middle East developments and the upcoming U.S. payrolls report.

Investors are cautious about diplomatic efforts to end the Iran war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, particularly after an attack by Yemen's Houthis on southern Saudi Arabia wounded 11 civilians on Thursday.

The pound was 0.1% lower against the dollar at $1.3438, while against the euro it was similarly lower at 85.76 pence.

Nick Rees, head of macro research at Monex Europe, stated that if Middle East tensions cool down after the payrolls report, attention may shift back to UK fiscal concerns.
