Pound Jumps as UK Economy Defies Expectations with 0.4% Growth in July
The UK economy experienced stronger-than-expected growth in July, beating forecasts of zero expansion. According to data from the Office for National Statistics, British GDP grew by 0.4% that month.
This growth was driven primarily by the services sector, which expanded by 0.4% month-on-month. Additionally, investment in AI-related industries such as telecoms and information services contributed to the overall increase in economic activity.
As a result of this positive news, the pound rose slightly against both the US dollar and the euro. However, economists still warn that the threat of rising energy costs remains a significant concern for the UK economy, particularly given Brent crude oil prices have now surpassed $110 per barrel.
