Pound May Edge Higher on Weak Aussie Sentiment Amid Inflation Fears
The Pound-Australian Dollar exchange rate has been range-bound, with no significant movement on Tuesday. The current price is AU$1.8763, a virtually unchanged figure from the start of trading.
The Australian Dollar's recent bullish momentum has stalled due to a decline in domestic consumer and business confidence. The Westpac-Melbourne Institute Consumer Sentiment Index fell 5.2% in September to 84.4, reversing almost all of the 6% improvement recorded in August.
Brent crude prices surged towards $100 a barrel on Tuesday morning, fueling renewed concerns over inflation and pushing UK government bond yields higher. The jump in energy prices prompted a broader sell-off in government bonds, with 10-year gilt yields edging higher.
