Pound Rebounds but BoE Rate Decision Looms as Key Driver
The Pound to Australian Dollar exchange rate has rebounded from a three-month low as market risk appetite slumped. At the time of writing, GBP/AUD was trading at AU$1.8835, up almost 0.4% from last week's session.
The Pound (GBP) was initially flat through the first half of the week, with Sterling holding its ground after John Healey delivered his first major speech as UK Chancellor. However, renewed turmoil across global bond markets kept Sterling rangebound as UK borrowing costs surged higher.
The Bank of England's (BoE) latest interest rate decision is set to be a key driver of movement for the Pound to Australian Dollar exchange rate this week. Consensus estimates see the BoE leaving interest rates on hold, and if it maintains its cautious messaging and pushes back on speculation that it will hike rates later in the year, it's likely to trigger fresh weakness in the Pound.
