Pound Slips as UK Labor Market Loses Momentum
The British pound slipped against the US dollar on Wednesday after the release of UK employment data that showed a cooling labor market. The GBP/USD pair fell to 1.2685, down 0.3% on the day.
According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the UK unemployment rate rose to 4.3% in the three months to November, up from 4.2% previously. Additionally, the number of payroll employees fell by 47,000 in December, marking the third consecutive monthly decline.
The data suggests that the UK labor market is losing momentum, which could ease inflationary pressures and give the Bank of England room to cut interest rates sooner than anticipated.
