Pound Softens Amid Fed Rate Uncertainty and Easing Oil Prices

The British Pound has softened against the US Dollar due to uncertainty over potential interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve. The CME FedWatch Tool indicates a nearly 38% chance of a rate hike in July, an unusually high level of uncertainty so close to a meeting.

Citadel Securities expects the Fed to raise rates to solidify Chairman Kevin Warsh's inflation-fighting credibility following his repeated promises to restore price stability. Looking ahead, there is an approximately 81.4% probability of at least a 25-basis-point hike in September.

The US Dollar showed resilience despite President Donald Trump stating that the US is engaged in 'good talks' with Iran to resolve the Middle East conflict. However, diplomatic developments have eased broader inflation and monetary policy concerns by pushing oil prices down.
