Pound Stalls as Dollar Strength Frustrates Sterling Gains

The British pound is experiencing a period of consolidation against the US dollar as markets await clarity on global interest rates. The GBP/USD pair has stalled, reflecting a market waiting for signals from the Federal Reserve and the Bank of England. US economic data releases have reduced the likelihood of imminent Fed rate cuts, making the dollar more attractive to investors.

The pound's recent momentum has slowed due to the dollar's resilience, which is being supported by resilient US economic data. The UK's own policy path remains clouded, with mixed signals from inflation and wage growth complicating the case for rate cuts. As a result, the market is pricing in a slower easing cycle for the Bank of England compared to earlier in the year.

From a technical perspective, GBP/USD is hovering near a critical support zone around 1.2500. A break below this level could open the door to further downside toward the 200-day moving average. On the upside, resistance is seen near 1.2700, where sellers have emerged in recent sessions.
