Pound Steady as ECB Minutes Offer No Surprises

The Pound to Euro exchange rate has been rangebound on Thursday as markets digested the minutes from the European Central Bank's latest policy meeting.

The minutes showed that ECB policymakers considered another interest-rate increase likely to be necessary to return inflation sustainably to the bank's 2% target, which is in line with market expectations.

The Pound was subdued on Thursday as a lull in UK economic data left Sterling without a clear domestic catalyst. Investors are divided over the outlook for Bank of England monetary policy, with some traders skeptical that the bank will raise rates before the end of 2026.

In the near term, the primary catalyst of movement for the Pound Euro exchange rate is expected to be the publication of the Eurozone's latest economic sentiment index on Friday. If the index reports improved morale, it could lift the single currency, but Germany's weak jobs data may limit the Euro's upside potential.
