Pound Sterling Rises as US Dollar Weakens Amid Rate Hike Bets

According to recent data from the CME FedWatch Tool, traders are increasingly betting on an interest rate hike by the US Federal Reserve, with about 60% odds of a rate increase at the central bank's upcoming policy meeting.

This surge in bets on higher rates has led to the weakening of the US Dollar, causing the British Pound to rise in value as investors seek safer havens for their money.

Meanwhile, the RICS UK Residential Market Survey showed that house prices are stabilizing, with a balance improving to -28% in August from an upwardly revised -29% in July. Strategists at Scotiabank note that while this may indicate some signs of market stabilization, investors remain cautious on the near-term policy outlook.

Scotiabank's analysis suggests that the short end of the UK curve remains cautious, pricing very little chance of a policy adjustment at next Thursday's meeting. However, they do embed a gradual tightening path, with about 17 basis points of tightening for November 5th and a cumulative 32 basis points by December 17th.
