Pound Sterling Suffers Sixth Consecutive Loss Amid Global Economic Uncertainty
The British Pound Sterling has experienced its sixth consecutive daily decline against the US Dollar, reaching a low of 1.3300 and marking its weakest level since June.
This slide in value comes without any domestic catalysts or events that would normally influence the currency's performance.
The decline is attributed to factors unrelated to Britain, with the US Dollar being driven up by several key economic indicators: a Gulf war supply scenario pushing Brent oil prices above $101 and lifting the US Dollar Index; lower-than-expected jobless claims in the United States at 187K, a figure that has not been seen since 1969.
The Federal Reserve's decision to hike interest rates is now being priced at 66.9% for next Wednesday's meeting, with two hikes carrying a 60.0% probability by December.
