Pound Sterling Surges on US Yield Drop, But Gains Are Uneven
The Pound Sterling has made significant gains against the Dollar, driven by a sharp fall in US long-dated Treasury yields. The UK inflation release was an important background story for the Bank of England, but it wasn't enough to trigger a direct Sterling move.
Core inflation remained steady at 2.6%, while services inflation eased to 3.4%. Labour-market data showed unemployment holding at 4.9% and private-sector regular pay growth slowing down to its weakest pace since 2020.
The British Pound is breaking higher against the Dollar, Yuan, and Rupee, but it remains under pressure against the Euro, New Zealand Dollar, and Swiss Franc. The one-month G8 strength chart shows the Yen leading, followed by the Euro and Australian Dollar.
