Pound Surges on Europe's Energy Price Boom
The British Pound may see support against the US Dollar due to rising energy prices in Europe. According to MUFG, European natural gas prices are increasing inflation risks, which could prompt another rate hike from the Bank of England.
UK natural gas futures have surged by 62.5% since July, with prices peaking at their highest level since January 2023. This divergence in energy dynamics may also support the Euro against its peers.
The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Report highlighted the potential for inflation risks, particularly from natural gas prices. The hawks on the MPC, such as Catherine Mann, will likely emphasize these risks and potentially call for action.
