Pound Surges on Strong UK GDP Data Amid Hawkish Fed Expectations
The British Pound (GBP) has experienced a significant surge against its peers, particularly the USD, following the release of strong UK monthly GDP data. The Office for National Statistics reported that the economy expanded at a pace of 0.4% in July, surpassing expectations of flat growth.
Additionally, industrial production and manufacturing production data came in higher than anticipated, with industrial production growing by 0.2%, and manufacturing production rising at a faster pace of 0.9%. These figures indicate a modest rebound in the UK's economic activity.
The upcoming releases of employment data for three months ending July and consumer price index (CPI) data for August are expected to have a significant impact on interest rate expectations. Economists at Deutsche Bank predict that UK inflation will re-accelerate, with headline CPI forecasted to reach 3.04% year-over-year.
Market participants await the US Consumer Price Index (CPI) data release, which could influence the Federal Reserve's monetary policy outlook and lead to increased hawkish expectations for a rate hike next week.
