Qantas Exits Jetstar Japan Ownership with AUD115 Million Gain Expected
Jetstar Japan is set to rebrand itself after Qantas Group exits its ownership. The Australian airline's stake in Jetstar Japan will be bought back by Development Bank of Japan through a share buyback, replacing Qantas as the majority owner. This transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close by June 2027.
Qantas expects an estimated AUD115 million gain from this sale, primarily in its 2027 financial year. The exit will also result in Jetstar Japan adopting a new brand identity.
JAL - Japan Airlines and Tokyo Century retain their current holdings in the airline. This rebranding comes as Qantas seeks to divest its stake in Jetstar Japan after over a decade of involvement.
