QNB: ECB's Tightening Cycle May Be Over Amid Easing Inflation Risks
Qatar National Bank (QNB) has released a commentary on the European Central Bank's (ECB) monetary policy tightening cycle. According to QNB, the ECB may have reached the end of its tightening cycle due to easing inflation risks and a weakening growth outlook for the Euro Area.
The QNB analysis cited three key factors supporting this assessment. First, the inflation risks that prompted the June rate hike have eased, with recent inflation data suggesting that higher energy costs are not feeding broadly into the economy.
Second, the weakening growth outlook for the Euro Area reinforces the case for no further increases in policy rates. Business activity has remained subdued, and slower economic growth is likely to reduce underlying inflationary pressures by dampening demand across the economy.
Third, the stance of monetary policymakers points to a growing preference for keeping policy rates unchanged. Recent ECB communication suggests that policymakers are becoming more comfortable with leaving interest rates unchanged, particularly in light of the balanced risks to inflation and growth.
