Quebec Braces for Tariff Fallout: Companies Could Enter 'Survival Mode'

Quebec Premier Christine Fréchette warned that the impending U.S. tariffs will have a colossal impact on Quebec's economy, potentially putting many companies in survival mode.

The proposed tariffs, set to take effect on August 19, could affect nine percent of Quebec's exports, totaling approximately $7 billion worth of goods.

Fréchette emphasized that negotiations with the federal government will intensify over the coming days as the deadline approaches, urging caution and preparedness from businesses and stakeholders.

Industry experts, including Jean Simard of the Aluminium Association of Canada, highlighted the potential consequences on processed goods, rather than raw materials like aluminum and steel.
