Quebec Election Campaign Heats Up with Government Efficiency Plans and Tariff Fights

Quebec's election campaign is heating up as leaders continue to unveil their party's visions for the province. On Day 7 of the campaign, Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) Leader Christine Fréchette announced her party's new government efficiency plan in Quebec City.

The plan aims to reduce red tape in the province by comparing similar public and private services to increase competition, opening up small and medium-sized businesses to execute specific tasks and services, and assigning a team to oversee big digital projects from start to finish. This was recommended by the Gallant Commission on the botched SAAQclic launch.

Conservative Party of Quebec (PCQ) Leader Éric Duhaime criticized the CAQ's promise, saying it took them eight years to realize they're not efficient and that the only way to get an efficient government is to kick the CAQ out on Oct. 5.

Duhaime also spoke about how Quebec could combat the tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump by eliminating interprovincial trade barriers within Canada, which he believes would grow Quebec's economy by two per cent by the end of its first term.
