RBA Finds No Need for Central Bank-Issued Digital Currency
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) and Treasury have stated that there is 'no clear public interest case' for introducing digital currency for everyday transactions. The current payments systems are seen as sufficient, according to a recent report.
As reported by Law360 on September 4, 2026, the RBA and Treasury cited the existing payments infrastructure as a reason not to introduce central bank-issued digital currency (CBDC).
