RBA Holds Interest Rates Steady Amid Improved Inflation Forecasts
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) has maintained its decision to keep interest rates steady at 4.35%, despite some improvement in inflation forecasts. The bank's governor, Michele Bullock, expressed cautious optimism that further rate hikes might not be necessary if economic conditions continue to align with the RBA's projections.
Bullock noted that recent data shows a significant decline in inflation, falling below previous projections made just three months prior in May. Oil prices have behaved largely as anticipated, contributing to this decrease.
The RBA forecasts that inflation will return to the midpoint of its target range of 2-3% by the end of 2027, and market traders expect rates to remain stable through December 2028. However, Bullock emphasized the need for more evidence before confidently affirming that inflation will return to target levels under current monetary policies.
