RBA Officials Mum on Rate Hike as Inflation Lingers
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) is facing pressure to raise interest rates again to combat inflation. Economists believe that another rate hike is necessary, but RBA officials are being cautious ahead of their next policy meeting in about three weeks. In a recent interview, RBA Deputy Governor Andrew Hauser asked if they have done enough or if more action is needed.
RBA Assistant Governor Sarah Hunter echoed similar sentiments at a conference, stating that the rate-setting board has little tolerance for inflation remaining above its 2-3% target. If inflation persists beyond this range, the bank may be forced to hike rates again.
