RBA Officials to Speak Ahead of Crucial Cash Rate Meeting

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) is set to make key comments ahead of its crucial cash rate meeting later this month, amid growing anticipation for another interest rate hike.

RBA chief economist Sarah Hunter and governor Michele Bullock will speak at separate events in the coming days. Hunter will participate in a fireside chat at a Regional Australia Institute summit on Monday, while Bullock is scheduled to appear before a parliamentary committee on Friday.

Both officials are expected to reiterate their concerns about high inflation and leave the door open for further interest rate hikes, following the three increases already implemented in 2026. This echoes recent hawkish comments from RBA deputy governor Andrew Hauser, which sent bond markets into a spin last week.

Markets are now pricing in a four-in-five chance of a 25 basis point cash rate hike on September 29. However, Westpac chief economist Luci Ellis still believes the RBA is more likely to hike in November than September.
