RBA Warns of Interest Rate Hikes Amid Crystallizing Inflation Risks
Australia's central bank is keeping an eye on inflation risks, and if they crystallize, interest rates may need to be raised again. According to Deputy Governor Andrew Hauser, there are three upside risks to inflation: the Middle East conflict, the global AI boom, and poor productivity.
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) has already hiked interest rates by 75 basis points since February to combat stubborn inflationary pressures. In its most recent decision, the RBA kept interest rates steady at 4.35% for a second meeting last week.
Hauger highlighted that inflation in Australia remains too high and that these upside risks could exacerbate the issue. The RBA will be closely monitoring the situation to determine if further action is needed to control inflation.
