RBA's Rate Hike Strategy Under Fire Amid Inflation Fears

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) is set to make a decision on interest rates this week, but a recent survey has raised doubts about its strategy. The market predicts that rates will remain unchanged.

Last month's unexpected drop in inflation reduced the chances of a rate hike, driven by falling fuel prices in June. However, international oil prices are volatile and unlikely to stabilize soon due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

RBA Governor Michele Bullock acknowledged that interest rate rises would not affect inflation in the next six months, saying 'These interest rate rises are not going to do anything for inflation in the next six months. That's done and dusted.'

The RBA claims it increases rates to fight inflationary expectations, but a recent survey showed that 59% of people believe higher interest rates increase inflation, rather than decrease it.
