RBC Smashes Q3 Earnings Expectations with Record C$6 Billion Net Income
Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) reported record third-quarter earnings, with net income reaching C$6 billion. This represents an 11% year-over-year increase and a 9% sequential gain.
The bank's diluted earnings per share rose 13% from the prior-year period to C$4.23 and increased 10% from the second quarter. Return on common equity reached 17.9%, up 60 basis points from the prior-year period and 70 basis points sequentially.
RBC attributed the year-over-year improvement primarily to stronger results in Wealth Management, Capital Markets, and Commercial Banking. The diversification of its business model provides multiple sources of earnings as economic conditions change.
The bank maintained a strong capital position while generating record earnings. Its Common Equity Tier 1 ratio stood at 13.5%, unchanged sequentially.
