RBC Wins Accolade for AI-Powered Retail Credit Underwriting Innovation
The Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) has been recognized for its innovative use of artificial intelligence technology in retail credit underwriting. At the recent Digital Banker's Global Transaction Banking Innovation Awards, RBC was honored for its success in modernizing this process.
According to Chris Phillips, Senior Vice President of Global Functions Technology at RBC, 'Traditionally, credit underwriting has been one of the most rule-bound processes in banking.' To reimagine this process, RBC built on its proprietary foundation model, ATOM, which is trained on large-scale financial datasets.
The AI-enhanced retail credit underwriting allows RBC to tailor credit offers to each client's unique circumstances, leading to better decisions and more personalized experiences. Gopala Narayanan, senior vice president of retail risk for RBC, believes that 'Innovation in financial services only creates lasting value when it is built on a foundation of sound risk management.'
RBC has also created an AI Group to turn use cases into market-ready solutions and partnered with AI company Cohere and joined MIT's FinTechAI@CSAIL initiative to access early-stage AI research.
