RBI Expands Retail Forex Access with Five New Currency Pairs
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is expanding its retail foreign exchange platform to offer more currencies for individuals and businesses. The central bank plans to add five new currency pairs, including euro, British pound, Swiss franc, Canadian dollar, and Emirati dirham, to the existing platform.
This move will enable customers to access a broader range of global currencies through the RBI's FX-Retail platform, which has gained popularity with average daily transaction volumes reaching $100 million. The RBI had first announced plans to introduce additional currency pairs in its October 2025 monetary policy.
The expanded currency offering will be made available through Bharat Connect, a state-owned centralized platform used for recurring bill payments and business payments.
