RBI Forex Swap Facility Exceeds $72 Billion Target
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that its special US dollar-Indian rupee forex swap facility has received a total inflow of $72.85 billion as of August 21, 2026.
This figure includes Foreign Currency Non-Resident (Bank) deposits accounting for the majority at $65.4 billion, while Overseas Foreign Currency Borrowings brought in $4.86 billion and External Commercial Borrowings contributed $2.59 billion.
The RBI introduced this special facility on June 8, 2026, aiming to boost dollar inflows amid a weakening rupee.
Originally available until September 30, the swap facility was shortened due to an encouraging response, resulting in the required foreign exchange flow into the country. The scheme is now open until August 31 for FCNR(B) deposits, while the facility for ECBs and OFCBs remains open until December 31.
