RBI Forex Swap Facility Sees $72.85 Billion Inflows Amid Rupee Weakness
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that its special USD-INR forex swap facility has received a total of $72.85 billion in foreign exchange inflows as of August 21, 2026.
This figure is comprised of various sources, with Foreign Currency Non-Resident (Bank) deposits making up the majority at $65.4 billion.
The RBI introduced this facility on June 8, 2026, to boost dollar inflows and stabilize the rupee, which was experiencing a period of weakness.
The original deadline for the swap facility was September 30, but due to its success, it has been extended until August 31, 2026, for FCNR(B) deposits, while ECBs and OFCBs remain open until December 31, 2026.
