RBNZ Hikes OCR by 25 Basis Points Amid Inflation Concerns
New Zealand's Reserve Bank has raised the Official Cash Rate (OCR) by 25 basis points to 2.75 percent, citing a need for gradual monetary tightening in response to high inflation.
The decision was made on September 2, following an annual inflation rate of 4.1 percent in the June quarter, which exceeds the bank's 1-3 percent target range due to higher fuel prices resulting from the ongoing Middle East conflict.
The Reserve Bank emphasized that this is a temporary measure and aims to avoid more significant hikes later on by gradually removing monetary stimulus.
