RBNZ Hikes Rates as NZ Bond Yields Soar Amid Crude Price Surge
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) hiked interest rates for the second consecutive meeting, bringing the benchmark rate to 2.75%. This decision was made to combat inflation, which has remained above 2% in recent years.
New Zealand's bond yields have risen significantly, with the ten-year yield jumping to 4.86%, its highest level since March 23rd this year. The increase in yields is also being driven by rising crude oil prices and transportation costs.
The NZD/USD exchange rate has slumped, reaching a low of 0.5835, down over 2.6% from its peak in August. This downward trend is expected to continue, with the pair likely moving towards the Murrey Math Lines reverse level.
