RBNZ Prioritizes Resilient Financial System for Economic Success
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) has outlined its priorities for a resilient and enabling financial system. Financial stability is seen as a foundation for New Zealand's economic success, according to Mr. McGregor.
He emphasized that 'financial stability is about ensuring financial institutions can keep supporting households, businesses and the wider economy through both normal times and periods of stress.'
The RBNZ is focusing on building and maintaining a fit-for-purpose regulatory regime, which means regulation and supervision that are proportionate, risk-based, evidence-informed and future-proofed.
Mr. McGregor noted the importance of constructive relationships in achieving financial stability, stating 'strong relationships help us do that job better.' He concluded by highlighting the shared goal of a financial system that is resilient, competitive, innovative, and trusted by New Zealanders.
