RBNZ Raises Cash Rate to 2.75% Amid Ongoing Inflation Concerns
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) raised its official cash rate by 25 basis points to 2.75% on September 1, 2026, in line with market expectations.
The decision was made after the RBNZ's guidance that further rate increases are possible but not locked in, which sent the New Zealand dollar sharply lower, down about 0.6% to 0.586 against the US dollar.
Inflation remains a major concern for the RBNZ, with annual consumer-price inflation rising to 4.1% in the June quarter due to higher fuel and related prices following the Middle East conflict.
