RBNZ Rate Hike Falls Short of Expectations as NZD/USD Stalls
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) raised its official cash rate by 25 basis points to 2.75% on Wednesday, a move that typically attracts greater capital inflows to the New Zealand Dollar (NZD).
However, the RBNZ also signaled a more gradual and cautious path for future rate increases, which moderated market enthusiasm and tempered the initial bullish impact of the hike.
NZD/USD is trading above its key moving averages, reflecting a positive tilt in recent sessions. Immediate support is defined by the Ichimoku Kijun at $0.5852, with resistance at the session high of $0.5883 and a further upper boundary expected at $0.5919.
The probability favors an upward move, with a 70% chance of a breakout above resistance, while there remains a 30% risk of a pullback below immediate support at $0.5852.
