RBNZ Rate Hike Triggers Kiwi Dollar Selloff Amid Uncertainty
The New Zealand dollar stabilized around $0.585 on Thursday after experiencing losses in the previous session.
This came as a result of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's (RBNZ) dovish tilt in its policy projections, despite raising its official cash rate by 25 basis points to 2.75% on Wednesday.
The move marked the central bank's second consecutive hike and brought the rate to its highest level in more than a year.
Governor Anna Breman emphasized that there is no predetermined path for monetary policy and that the timing of any further rate hike remains highly uncertain, which was interpreted as more cautious than markets had anticipated.
