The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) has been traveling across regions to gather economic insights, and its latest stop was Nelson-Tasman. In 2026 so far, RBNZ leaders have visited six centers outside Wellington and Auckland, meeting with over 50 organizations and connecting directly with around 600 local business operators and community members.

During the visit to Nelson-Tasman, they met with local iwi, regional economic development agency representatives, aquaculture representatives, retirement providers, and transport companies. According to Dr Breman, hearing from people living and working in communities is an important part of their work. They seek to understand how nationwide economic developments affect different regions, industries, businesses, communities, and households.

Alongside its financial stability and cash and payments work, the RBNZ aims to keep inflation low and stable. The Monetary Policy Committee's remit is to maintain annual inflation between 1% and 3%, focusing on 2%, while avoiding unnecessary volatility in the economy.
