Reserve Bank Proposes Shifting Regulatory Costs to Consumers
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand has released a consultation paper proposing to shift regulatory costs onto banks and insurers, which consumers are expected to absorb. This move is part of a broader effort by the bank to reform its prudential framework.
Gyles Beckford discussed the potential impact of this proposal on consumers in an interview with RNZ. He noted that various inflation indicators have been released recently, including retail and service sector reports, as well as manufacturing data. These reports suggest that inflation is still a concern for New Zealand's economy.
Gyles also touched on recent company earnings results, which showed mixed performances across different sectors. While some companies reported strong profits, others struggled with declining revenues and rising costs.
