Resona Bank, a Japanese financial institution, has set its sights on providing significant support to startups in the country. In an interview, President Kazuhiro Chida revealed that the bank plans to extend approximately 45 billion yen in loans to startups by fiscal 2028. This target is nine times higher than the amount provided in fiscal 2025.

The move aims to position Resona Bank as a leading supporter of startup growth, with Chida stating 'We want to be the top runner' in this regard. To achieve this goal, the bank has been actively financing startups since October 2023 and hopes to reach a cumulative loan amount of 100 billion yen by the end of fiscal 2028.

In addition to its lending efforts, Resona Bank is exploring opportunities for collaboration with major companies to accelerate startup growth. Chida emphasized the importance of connecting startups with these large firms, stating that his company 'would like to demonstrate a presence as a bridge.'
