Revolut Launches EURR Euro Stablecoin Amid Digital Euro Development
Revolut has begun testing its first euro stablecoin, EURR. The company started this process in Denmark, Poland, and Portugal.
The launch of EURR comes as the European Central Bank (ECB) sets stronger privacy protections for a possible digital euro. A key difference between the two products is their structure: EURR is issued by Bridge Building S.A., part of Stripe-owned Bridge, while the digital euro would represent central bank money.
The ECB plans to begin a 12-month pilot program for the digital euro in the second half of 2027. If successful, the ECB aims to issue the digital euro around 2029, pending EU legislation completion.
Revolut's EURR is currently available through its app and initially runs on the Ethereum network. The company plans to expand access to the EEA later this year.
