Revolut Receives French Banking Licence for European Expansion

Revolut has received a full banking licence from the European Central Bank and the Autorité de Contrôle Prudentiel et de Résolution (ACPR) in France. The licence will enable Revolut to serve customers across Europe, starting with France, before expanding into other markets including Germany, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, and Spain.

The company has been granted the licence after a joint assessment by the ACPR and the European Central Bank, with the decision adopted by the ECB Governing Council. Revolut's Lithuanian entity, Revolut Bank UAB, will continue to operate as a cornerstone of its operations in other EEA markets.

The French banking licence is seen as a significant milestone for Revolut, which has over 75 million customers globally and plans to invest over €1 billion in the Western European region. The company has committed to hiring more than 600 people across its Western European markets and opening its new Western European HQ in Paris in 2027.
