Revolut Secures Spot in FCA Stablecoins Regulatory Sandbox

Revolut has secured a spot in the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) stablecoins regulatory sandbox, one of only four firms chosen from twenty applicants. The selection puts Revolut on a concrete regulatory track for issuing its own stablecoin, which will be pegged to the British pound and backed by pound reserve assets.

The FCA's regulatory sandbox is designed to test new financial products and services in a controlled environment, allowing companies to experiment with innovative ideas while minimizing risk. By participating in the program, Revolut can refine its stablecoin concept and receive feedback from regulators before launching it on the market.

Revolut has been working towards acquiring banking licenses for years, securing a full UK banking license in March 2026, an EU banking license, and filing for a US bank charter. These licenses will enable the company to issue its own stablecoin, which will allow customers to buy, hold, sell, and move the coin within the Revolut app before sending it out on public crypto networks.
