Revolut Unlocks French Market with Crucial Banking License
Revolut, a leading fintech company, has secured a crucial banking license from France's Autorité de Contrôle Prudentiel et de Résolution (ACPR) and the European Central Bank. This move enables Revolut to operate as a full-fledged bank in France, marking its second such license within the EU after Lithuania.
The French license is part of a dual-hub strategy for Revolut, which will allow the company to expand gradually into five other Western European countries: Germany, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, and Spain. The Lithuanian entity will continue to manage operations across the European Economic Area markets.
Revolut's CEO Nik Storonsky described the license as a 'historic milestone' in the company's ambition to become one of Europe's largest and most trusted banks. Revolut has committed over €1 billion to its Western Europe expansion over the past year, adding nearly 8 million new customers in the region, bringing its total customer base to approximately 30 million.
The French approval comes just months after Revolut secured its full UK banking license in March 2026. The company plans to open its Western European headquarters in Paris by early 2027.
