The Malaysian ringgit opened higher against the US dollar on Monday morning ahead of this week's Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting, which is set to take place from September 15-16, 2026.

At 8am, the local currency edged up to 4.0630/4.0730 against the greenback from last Friday's close of 4.0685/4.0725.

Afzanizam Rashid, chief economist at Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd, attributed the market sentiment to two key events: the upcoming FOMC meeting and the interest rate decision by the Bank of Japan (BOJ) on September 18.
