Riyal Plummets to Historic Lows Amid Escalating US Blockade
The value of Iran's currency has plummeted to historic lows against the US dollar due to the tightening economic blockade imposed by Washington.
According to tracking site TGJU, the riyal traded at around 2 million per dollar on Monday, down 4.5% since US President Donald Trump announced a major campaign against Tehran last week.
The economic pressure mounted as Washington sought to isolate Iran by threatening its remaining trade partners, blockading key Persian Gulf ports, and choking off vital crude oil revenue.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is due to announce new economic measures against Iran later Monday, describing the planned campaign as an 'economic D-Day', aiming to sever Iran's remaining economic lifelines.
