Rockstar Slashes GTA Online Casino Payouts as NZ Prepares for Regulated Gambling
Rockstar Games has made significant changes to GTA Online's casino payouts in its latest update. The Kortz Center Heist update, released on July 14, reduced the payout for nearly every existing heist by around 30 percent. For example, the top cash payout for the Diamond Casino Heist finale was cut from $2,115,000 to $1,480,500.
This change has been met with community backlash, with some players calling it a 'tax' on the game's economy, which relies heavily on robbing virtual casinos. Rockstar framed the change as part of a broader effort to balance payouts and encourage players to try out new content.
Interestingly, this development comes at the same time as New Zealand's Department of Internal Affairs is introducing regulations for online casino operators. The country has opened its first licensed online casino operators and will auction off up to 15 licences in September, with full applications due by October.
New Zealand's move towards regulating online casinos mirrors the gradual shift in GTA Online's economy. While Rockstar didn't 'kill' the Diamond Casino Heist, it made the grind less rewarding while building hype for its next-generation game, GTA 6. This parallel development highlights a decade-long appetite for virtual casino gameplay that shows no signs of fading.
