Legendary investor Jim Rogers expressed his preference for the Chinese yuan over the US dollar in an interview, but noted that he holds cash in USD due to the yuan's lack of full convertibility. Speaking at a Hong Kong investor event on August 16, 2026, Rogers stated that if the yuan were fully convertible, he would hold it as his preferred currency.

Rogers, who predicted the commodities rally in 1999 and is a former business partner of George Soros, warned about the dangers of an extremely bad market crash following a prolonged global rally. He emphasized the need to decide where to move next and suggested that the renminbi would be the logical choice if it were fully convertible.

Rogers believes that the yuan will eventually become fully convertible due to China's sizeable economy and resulting pressure on its money flow. However, until then, he plans to continue buying US dollars, despite cautioning about the United States being the world's largest debtor nation with a national debt approaching $40 trillion.
