Romania Aims for Eurozone Entry in 2032 Amid Fiscal Consolidation Push
Romania's transition to the euro currency may take longer than expected. Interim Minister of Investments and European Projects, Dragoș Pîslaru, announced that Romania could aim for the year 2032 for entry into the eurozone.
The transition to the European currency depends on fiscal-budgetary consolidation, a coherent development plan, and political stability. According to Pîslaru, the following years should be dedicated to improving public finances and meeting the necessary criteria for accession.
Romania needs to have a controlled budget deficit and public debt, with the aim of putting finances in order by 2030. Currently, Romania is not ready for the adoption of the euro as it does not participate in the ERM II mechanism, which is considered a mandatory step before accession.
