Royal Mint Recycles Gold from Old Phones

The British Royal Mint has started extracting gold from discarded electronic devices, including old phones once used at Bank of England offices.

This unusual recycling operation can process around 4,000 tonnes of electronic waste each year and recover approximately 400 kg of gold.

The facility uses a patented technology developed by Canadian company Excir, which can dissolve gold at room temperature without requiring external energy sources or hazardous chemicals.
