Ruble Crashes Amid CIA Director's Moscow Visit and Escalating Tensions
The Russian ruble has plummeted to its lowest level against major currencies since March, with the euro exchange rate exceeding 100 rubles for the first time in over a year.
This sudden depreciation comes on the heels of CIA Director John Ratcliffe's recent visit to Moscow and rumors about the Kremlin's plans to escalate hostilities.
According to The Moscow Times, the ruble has lost more than 20% of its value since late May, with an 8% drop against the dollar and a 9% decline against both the euro and yuan since August began.
Russian experts attribute this downturn to a limited supply of foreign currency caused by sanctions and geopolitical pressure on exports, as well as reports of the CIA director's visit initially raising hopes for renewed contacts between the US and Russia but ultimately leading to disappointment.
