Rupee Falls to New Low as Brent Crude Prices Surge
The Indian rupee fell to a new low on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, hitting 95.42 against the US dollar in early trade.
This decline comes after the rupee had already dropped 6 paise to settle at 95.36 against the US dollar on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
Anil Kumar Bhansali, Head of Treasury and Executive Director, Finrex Treasury Advisors LLP, attributed the rise in Brent crude prices to uncertainty over the Strait of Hormuz and attacks on shipping.
Brent crude is currently trading at $89.80 per barrel, a 1% increase from Tuesday's price.
